Scientific Notation and Scale

We updated the homework packet cover sheet and answered the following Quick Question:

Which is the larger quantity for each pair?  Show your work.

1. 3.65 L or 36500 mL
2. 92 mm or 0.92 m
3. 830 kg or 83000 g

We continued our discussion of metric prefixes and comparing like quantities with the Metric Money activity.  We also took notes on Scientific Notation and did a number of practice problems in class.  Click here for an on-line practice page for scientific and standard notation.  Scientific notation works well when applied to very large and very small numbers.  As an extension of this we completed the Question of Scale activity.
