Upwelling in Monterey Bay

QQ- Water that is upwelled is _______ in temperature and ___________ in nutrients than the surrounding water.

I checked the homework (land-sea breeze worksheet) and the heat capacity lab.  We continued our discussion of upwelling and watched this demonstration that shows when water is transported off-shore, deep water comes in to replace it.


The one downfall of this video is that in upwelling, the wind blows parallel with the shoreline (so the fan would need to be blowing toward the camera) and the Coriolis Effect transports the water off shore (this process is more specifically called Ekman transport, but you won't be tested on that!).

We spent most of the period on the Upwelling in Monterey Bay activity.  Your finished map should look something like this:
